Fury will find spark

North Queensland Fury assistant manager Stuart McLaren is confident his side will bounce back after consecutive losses to Melbourne Heart and Adelaide United in the past fortnight.

The Fury dominated Melbourne Heart on Saturday and were desperately unlucky not to come away with a point or more at AAMI Park on Saturday night.

Franz Straka's outfit have played an attractive brand of football this season to claim five points from their first five games and McLaren said he was proud with the side's performance.

"If you draw a direct comparison between the type of football that was played between both sides it wasn't a contest," McLaren said.

"All that was missing was just finishing off a couple of the chances we had, in particular the gilt-edged chances we had in the first half. It's a lesson for us. I know our lads will respond very well. "

McLaren says the Fury's form in the early part of the season indicates they are a seriously competitive side.

"We recognise that we are five games into a 30 game season. There's a lot more points to be won or lost," he said.

"Football itself doesn't always give you everything you deserve in a one off game but over the course of the season if we play that type of football that we have played in the first part of the season hopefully we'll pick up enough points to be or thereabouts for the finals."

North Queensland now have a bye to reflect on an overall positive first five weeks and McLaren feels there are positives to take from the week off.

"It would be nice to keep a rhythm but the bye is part of the Hyundai A-League season at the moment. When the bye comes you just have to deal with it. We do have one or two very minor niggles and it will be nice to have that extra time to shake them off," he said.

The Fury will face Melbourne Victory at home after the bye before a week-long away trip which will see them travel to Wellington, Sydney and Gosford for three games in seven days.

Meanwhile, defender Simon Storey says he is enjoying himself at his new club and admitted the attacking freedom given to the players by Straka is exciting.

"We defend as a unit and work really tight defensively but when we have the ball we are told to have a go at it," Storey said.

"That's exciting - especially for young boys like Davie Williams, Isaka (Cernak) and Chris Payne who really have a chance to have a go at teams. I think that's great for us and the game as a whole."

The former Melbourne Victory player also spoke of his pride at the team's performance so far this season.

"We are proud of the way we are playing and what we've achieved. No one probably expected us to do so well and play as well as we have," he said.
