Redbacks skittle Vics

The Bushrangers have posted the lowest score ever by a Victorian team at Adelaide Oval after being bowled out in the 38th over for just 123 by South Australia in their Ryobi One-Day Cup clash.

A top-order collapse of 5-35 followed by a late breakdown for a catastrophic 5-13 by the Bushrangers has set the Redbacks a paltry total of 124 for victory – their lowest Ryobi Cup score this summer.

Ferocious spells of bowling from paceman Jake Haberfield with 4-30 from 9.2 overs and injury-returning paceman Gary Putland with 2-18 from nine sparked the dramatic folds early and late in the Bushrangers' innings.

Ryan Carters was the best for the Bushrangers with 44 after making an amends for an early mix-up with Aaron Finch.

Having demolished South Australia by 186-runs in the Sheffield Shield on Sunday courtesy of back-to-back centuries to Quiney, White elected to bat first and give his Bushrangers opener another chance to wreak havoc on the Redbacks.

However Quiney much to everyone's surprise could not reproduce his twin-centurion effort dismissed for a duck on just the 4th ball of the day, when his attempted drive off Putland flew through the air at chest height to Joe Mennie at mid-on.

Putland who had not played for the Redbacks since injuring his hamstring in a Shield game against New South Wales in November 2011, barely missed a beat two balls later claiming the scalp of White.

The Victorian skipper's horrendous form with the bat continued, once again failing to register a single run, as he played across a full-length in-swinging delivery from Putland that edged and rocketed the ball onto his stumps.

The Bushrangers were stunned and failed to recover from their opening over obliteration as Andrew McDonald departed six overs later for seven when his pads were rattled trying to defend against Mennie's in-swing.

Peter Handscomb was then tapped in his crease in an identical fashion for only four by Redbacks off-spinner Aaron O'Brien (1-40 from nine) when he completely missed the ball trying to work it down leg side.

Finch who was back in the Victorian side after a spell with the Australian T20 team was repelling the Redbacks' early onslaught to great success until a calamitous mix-up with Carters cost him his wicket for 20.

After a miss-field following a solid cover drive, Carters called to run but became indecisive half-way down the wicket, sending Finch back as Redbacks captain Michael Klinger closed in on the loose ball and ran out the Victorian opener at the bowlers end.

Keen to make amends Carters smacked four boundaries and an impressive six in the 28th over to bring up Victoria's 100 whilst combining for a 75-run partnership with tailender Will Sheridan (31).

Sheridan was unable to keep with Carters however when he leant back and plucked at a Haberfield delivery that carried to Redbacks batsman James Smith on the mid-wicket boundary.

Sheridan's dismissal in the 31st over was the first of five wickets to fall in quick succession.

Mennie bowled Carters first with an angled delivery short of his half-century before Haberfield claimed a double-wicket maiden in the 34th over with the dismissals of Peter Siddle (one) and Jayde Herrick (zero).

Haberfield completed his four-wicket haul in the 38th over when Jon Holland (5) edged a shot through to Redbacks gloveman Adam Crosthwaite.
