Reds' confidence high

Adelaide United keeper Eugene Galekovic admitted he is loving life under the new regime of Dutch coach Rini Coolen as the Reds top the table after five rounds in the A-League and remain, with Perth Glory and Brisbane Roar, the only undefeated sides in the competition.

The Socceroo shot stopper said there's less work for him to do and there's less pressure on United's defence compared to last season when they finished bottom of the table.

Galekovic acknowledged United's new-look attacking brand of football has seen the pressure lifted off the Reds, who have recorded three consecutive wins and taken the lead in three of their five games.

"I'm having a lot less work to do which is good for me. It takes a lot of pressure off the defence when we're scoring goals and leading in the game," he said.

"The pressure on the defence is so much less compared to last year because we're always in front now. We know if we go behind we can score goals so it's a good feeling. Last year we didn't get the results and we lost confidence. Now we're winning games and getting results and that brings confidence."

"When we're scoring goals, we're 1-0 up and the pressure is off us. Teams have to come at us and there's holes everywhere and we can start playing the ball, The boys are obviously confident in keeping the ball, Sergio (van Dijk) and (Marcos) Flores are good at holding the ball up. There's certainly a lot less pressure than last year."

Galekovic admitted though, the Reds still have some work to do in the back half, with United's victories spoiled by conceding cheap goals.

The 29 year old said injuries to Nigel Boogaard and Robert Cornthwaite have forced the Reds to reshuffle the back four, but admitted spots in the starting XI will be up for grabs when United has a full squad to choose from.

"We've still got a lot on injuries. Cornthwaite, Boogaard are still out and they're important players for us. We're trying to get as many wins as early as we can and eventually those boys will be back and fighting for a spot."

Galekovic is wary of the wounded Jets ahead of the Saturday night clash at Hindmarsh Stadium.

The Jets are currently in financial turmoil and United's custodian believes the predicament will galvanise the Reds' opponents.

He added though, United won't be focusing too much on how the Jets will go about business, as the Reds look to continue their stunning early season, free-scoring form in front of the home crowd.

"I think as a playing group it makes you stronger," he said.

"Obviously they've got to play for contracts, if the club does fall apart the players have to look for a new club. The only motivation that can bring is to play to the best of their ability. Hopefully for their sake it keeps them going strong."

"Hopefully we put them on the back foot straight away and we're aiming to get one early and go from there," he said.

"We're not really too worried about them, we're playing at home. We're going to come out here and put pressure on them from the first minute. They're a bit of the opposite to us, we're scoring goals and they're probably not scoring as many as they would like."
