Khedira plays down Ronaldo spat

Sami Khedira has played down Cristiano Ronaldo's outburst against Real Madrid, suggesting it was not indicative of any deep-seated disharmony in the club's ranks.
On the back of an underwhelming opening to the Primera Liga season, Real Madrid have been rocked by suggestions that last season's top goalscorer Ronaldo wants to leave the Spanish capital club, with some reports suggesting it was a result of a disagreement among the playing list.
But Khedira doesn't believe Ronaldo's outburst after he scored twice in a 3-0 win over Granada is indicative of the player suffering from some form of 'sadness' at his predicament.
"He never hinted at something like that," Khedira told Kicker.
"Maybe Ronaldo just wanted the public to have a view into his personal life.
"And when he says something, it has a much bigger effect as he is among the best players in the world.
Khedira may have found renewed competition for a midfield berth following the arrival of Luka Modric from Tottenham, but he is confident he still has the full backing of manager Jose Mourinho.
"If he had a low opinion of me I wouldn't be in the squad for the third year. (I want to show) that I am the man to count on," he said.
