Saville wins boys' title

Australian Luke Saville has won his second Grand Slam singles title with victory in the Australian Open boys' final on Saturday.

The world No.1 junior, who turns 18 next week, edged out unseeded Canadian Filip Peliwo 6-3 5-7 6-4 in exactly two hours at Rod Laver Arena.

He joins Bernard Tomic as a multiple Grand Slam junior champion after breaking through for his first major title at last year's Wimbledon.

Saville, who lost 6-0 6-3 in the final last year, becomes the third local to win at Melbourne Park in the past six years after Bernard Tomic (2008) and Brydan Klein (2007).

After holding his opening service game to love, Saville broke the Canadian's serve to make the perfect start to the match.

And that was all he needed as the Adelaide teenager maintained that break for the remainder of the set before comfortably serving it out.

Saville had a chance to gain another break in the opening game of the second set but Peliwo stood firm and then broke the top seed's serve to edge ahead.

Saville got it back on serve with a break in the fifth game but didn't win a point in the 12th game when he was serving to stay in the set.

The Australian landed the crucial opening break of the deciding set in Peliwo's first service game and aside from facing a solitary break point in the fourth game, Saville was never really challenged as a booming serve sealed the match.

Earlier, 15-year-old American Taylor Townsend won the girls' title with a 6-1 3-6 6-3 victory over Russian fourth seed Yulia Putintseva.
