South Africa avoid ODI whitewash

A stunning Ryan McLaren six off the final ball saw South Africa secure a consolatory win in their three-match ODI series against New Zealand.

New Zealand, who won the first two matches of the series, reached 9-260 after electing to bat at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom.

South Africa, thanks largely to Graeme Smith's 116 off 130 balls, chased down the target with one wicket in hand to avoid a 3-nil whitewash on their home soil.

New Zealand had all but secured victory, with South Africa requiring three runs off the final ball of the match.

Facing James Franklin (2-38) McLaren held his composure to blast the short delivery into the stands and scrape home with a win.
