David Hayes will take over the training of 2010 Melbourne Cup winner Americain, with the champion stayer to be based out of Lindsay Park at Euroa for his final campaign.

Americain become the first French horse to win Australia's greatest race 12 months ago, while he finished fourth in this year's Melbourne Cup behind compatriot Dunaden.

Owner Gerry Ryan indicated before the 2011 Cup that Americain would be staying put in Australia before taking up stud duties next spring, with several trainers clambering for the chance to train the seven-year-old.

Hayes, a Hall of Fame trainer, tweeted on Tuesday that he would take Americain into his stables and also stable companion Stephanie Nigge, who had worked under previous trainer Alain de Royer Dupre.

"I am excited to announce that Americain and Stephanie Nigge will be joining the Lindsay Park team," Hayes tweeted.

"Thank you to owners, Kevin & Colleen Bamford and Gerry & Val Ryan for the vote of support."

"Stephanie has clearly been a key part of Americain's success as she has an amazing connection with the horse."

Hayes has only recently moved to his new Euroa stables and hopes to re-launch his family's famous name as a dominant force in Australian racing once again.
