Shinn shines on return

An emotional Blake Shinn has marked his return to the saddle with a winner at Sandown on Wednesday.
Shinn, who received a 12-month ban after admitting on placing over 2000 bets on races, had his first ride since breaking his leg on Melbourne Cup day last year and finished third on Distillery, trained by his step-father Lee Hope.
He then romped to a huge win on $6 shot Tellora, a horse again trained by his step-father but also owned by his mother.
The moment proved too much for the 2008 Melbourne Cup winning hoop, who broke down in tears when interviewed after the race
"It's hard to contain the emotion, but especially for my family. We've worked hard. I just wanted to comeback for my stepdad and my family, whom I just love," he said.
Shinn has received treatment for a gambling addiction and admits he has learned a lot in his time on the sidelines.
"You've got to learn from your mistakes and it was terrible what has happened. I've got back because of the support of the people behind me," he said.
"I'm rapt and my stepdad has guided me in the right direction."
Shinn has three rides for his step-father on Thursday at Seymour before his first Saturday metropolitan rides at Sandown on Christmas Eve.
