Spring over for Shamoline

Mark Kavanagh's prospects of another memorable spring have taken a hit with his promising four-year-old Shamoline Warrior ruled out of the spring.

The trainer advised Racing Victoria stewards on Friday morning that Shamoline Warrior has a mild tear to a ligament above its sesamoid bone and will be sent for a two-month spell.

The son of Shamardal was set to start one of the favourites for last year's Victoria Derby but was scratched from the race and sent for a long spell.

He returned in the Liston Stakes in August but beat just one runner home and subsequent tests have revealed he has suffered yet another injury.

Shamoline Warrior joins fellow four-year-old Kutchinski as a non-acceptor for the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup.
