Roosters sack duo

They tried to down play the incident as a 'prank', but it's emerged the Sydney Roosters have sacked two under-20 players for defecating in hotel rooms during a trip away last weekend.

Toyota Cup players Sam Brunton, who played three NRL games in 2010, and Anthony Gelling were axed on Thursday after an internal investigation revealed the pair defecated on tables and chairs in rooms at the Holiday Inn in Townsville.

The disgusting acts come a year after the club's NRL star Nate Myles was stood down for six matches and fined $50,000 for the same offence.

The incidents have taken the gloss of what has been a wonderful week for the Roosters; five-eighth Todd Carney winning the Dally M Medal and Brian Smith (coach of the year) and Braith Anasta (captain of year) taking out major awards.

It's understood hotel staff took pictures of the mess Brunton and Gelling caused and made contact with the club.

A cleaner from the hotel told Sydney's Daily Telegraph the scene was: 'disgusting, absolutely disgusting'.

The pair had not been drinking and have offered no explanation for their actions.

"The incident, which started out as a prank, did not involve alcohol," the Roosters said in a statement.

"However, the behaviour was unacceptable and the club saw it fit to take the strongest action possible."

"The club started the 2010 season with the mantra: New Attitude-New Beginning and it is disappointing that this incident has occurred."

"Throughout the 2010 season the Sydney Roosters have lived by this mantra and will continue to enforce the code of conduct as set by the players and management."

The Roosters' Toyota Cup side will meet North Queensland at the SFS on Saturday evening.
