SEN OPINION
Focus on mental health needed

Peering through The Glass today I see the AFL perhaps focusing too heavily on outcomes rather than processes.

It comes to light after reading quotes from SEN commentator Wayne Schwass in the paper today.

While the focus has been on the 3rd positive test from Hawk Travis Tuck, the issue of his battle with mental illness has gone widely unnoticed.

Is depression or mental illness still not a sexy enough topic to focus resources and energy towards? It seems that these issues still only ever come to light after the damage has already been done.

I know there is no way to help these situations unless those afflicted come forward, but surely that would happen more if the environment was more conducive.

The mental health support network glass needs to get much fuller.

Like Marrisa I have been digonised with depression more along line of anxioty disorder, the hardest bit I found was to discuss with family and friends and since I have done so it has made it a lot easier to live with and made me aware that there are people out there in the same situation.

I suffer with depression, and it is a horrible thing to have to live with. I have beautiful friends and support that helps me, so i guess i am lucky.
