SEN OPINION
Good move for footy

Peering through the Glass today I see a new frontier being embraced by the AFL. No, not the Gold Coast or Western Sydney, but the far horizon of China.

Moves are afoot to broadcast the AFL finals series live free to air into China for the first time to a potential audience of 100 million people.

Knowing how fanatical the Chinese can be about things, imagine if Aussie Rules takes off! If you think Gary Ablett is big in Geelong, he could be a demi-God in China if things go well.

With a billion people in the country, any slice is a good slice for the AFL, and it will be very interesting to get a reaction from the locals when the big Ox takes his tour group to watch the Melbourne v Brisbane “Shanghai Showdown” in October.

It may even offer clubs unparalleled prosperity as new sponsors for new markets up the ante wanting a piece of the action.

The Chinese “Good for Footy” Glass is Harf-full!

It's a good move but maybe too late.. I believe the reason why Australian Football has not expanded overseas is because of it's name. We obviously need a generic name like every other international sport - how about "Dragon ball" !!!
