NRL behind times

Well Timana Tahu is not playing state of origin tonight for New South Wales against Queensland.

We all know why, Greg Inglis racially vilified by assistant coach and games great Andrew Johns in a team bonding meeting.

As an opponent Johns described Inglis in the most unsavoury way.

Tahu should be applauded for his stance. This morning New South Wales captain Kurt Gidley says Johns is not a racist and says that Tahu has given no inkling of his issues.

Where is the support for Tahu in rugby league? Where is David Gallop? His silence is deafening.

What were Tahu's New South Wales team mates thinking when Johns let go with his tirade.

Why wasn't there a mass walk out? Where was the leadership coming from his team members?

Why try and sweep it away by New South Wales as a hamstring injury to explain Tahu's absence.

I get the feeling that many in rugby league just think Tahu is being precious, sadly the game is still 20 years behind the times and full of ignorant people.

Kevin Kevin Kevin, if the NRL is 20 years behind the times that must make the AFL what.. in THE STONE AGE? Can you also tell me Kevin, if the NRL is full of ignorant people, then AFL must be full of drug dealers, junkies, gambling addicts, drunken yobs and rapists. Oh wait - it already is! Just ask one of your most high profile coach's. Now I and most people understand all codes will have their fair share of people with all sorts of problems. What I can't take is the all too common occurrence of people like you, and more generally the AFL, who think that the AFL can do no wrong, that the AFL is so morally superior in all aspects of life. WRONG KEVIN. Get off your high horse, you're just going to hurt yourself when you inevitably fall. And remember, PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN GLASS HOUSES SHOULD NOT THROW STONES.

I disagree with naming of Andrew John as a Racist or having Racial villified someone. If you care to look at the definition of Racism it is the belief that you are superior to someone because of their colour or ethnicity. To Racially villify someone you need to incite, in public, others to hate someone because of their colour or ethnicity. I do not believe Andrew Johns qualifies on any of these definitions. Just because the AFL has in place rules, that you can't call someone a Black B... etc and calls it Racial Villification or Racism does not make so. What it possibly is villification (not Racial), vitriol, name calling or Billingsgate. Refer the dictionary and also the Racial Villification Act 1995.

The NRL backwards attitude to problems in their game and the expansion of their game will be their ultimate downfall. Unless the next administrators of the code are more progressive then the NRL will go out of business somewhere in 10-20 years from now after being swamped by the AFL and ALeague. The AFL has problems as well but at least they try and address them, rather than just hand out ridiculous penalties like that to the Storm and hope the problem will go away. Putting your head in the sand won't make the problem go away Gallop!
