Seeds tumble in Memphis

Kazakhstan's Ksenia Pervak was among the surprise casualties at the Memphis International on Wednesday.

The second seed was dumped from the tournament in just the second round as Italian Alberta Brianti produced a 7-6 (7-3) 6-2 victory.

Brianti needed 103 minutes to seal her win in a match filled with service breaks.

Pervak failed to hold her serve on six occasions, ultimately costing her the match.

She was not the only big name to lose on Wednesday, with third seed Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic and fifth seed Pauline Parmentier of France also upset.

Ukraine's Lesia Tsurenko came from a set down to defeat Hradecka, 3-6 6-4 7-6 (7-3) while Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson beat Parmentier 7-6 (7-5) 0-6 6-3.

Frenchwoman Stephanie Foretz Gacon also won her way into the third round after she beat Italian Camila Giorgi 7-5 6-4.
