Boomer “secretly smiling” at De Goey’s Roos snub

2018-07-02T14:15+10:00

North Melbourne legend Brent Harvey couldn’t be happier with Jordan de Goey’s decision to remain at Collingwood, despite the budding star rejecting a multi-million dollar deal with his old club.

De Goey sensationally knocked back a reported five-year, $5 million-deal from the Roos to sign a deal tying him to the Holden Centre for the next two years.

Harvey believes the decision is a sign there's still a place for faithfulness in the cut-and-thrust world of modern AFL.

“I’m secretly smiling at Jordan de Goey,” he told SEN Afternoons.

“Yes, I would love Jordan de Goey at North Melbourne because he’s a great footballer, but I’m just rapt that people still see the loyalty, because so many people think because of free agency that loyalty’s out of the game, then all of a sudden you see a young kid forfeit maybe three or four hundred thousand.

“I just think that speaks about his character, and I was rapt when I heard that news.”

Harvey also expressed his delight at Carlton skipper Marc Murphy turning his back on the open market to remain a Blue, saying while he may be foregoing the ultimate success, his reward for staying will be just as important once he hangs up the boots.

“He might not win a premiership, but the next best thing to that is being a life member of your football club,” he said.

“Being a one-club player, I can tell you it means a lot.”
