Report: Victorian club tables five-year offer to Swan Hannebery

2018-08-07T07:25+10:00

St Kilda has tabled a five-year contract to Sydney star Dan Hannebery, according to SEN news breaker Sam McClure.

Hannebery still has three years to run on his current deal, but the Saints are keen on luring the Swan back to Victoria.

The 27-year-old is contracted until the end of 2021.

“Their desire to land a big fish is clearly gathering momentum,” McClure said.

“My understanding is they’ve tabled a five-year offer to the contracted Swan.

“It is complex given the fact that Dan Hannebery is contracted for the next three years and the Swans are of the opinion that he will see out his contract.

“Obviously a Victorian boy, he is highly sought after and has three seasons in the last five where he has finished in the top five in the Brownlow Medal.”

Melbourne great Garry Lyon thinks Hannebery still has plenty of to offer if he can get back to optimal fitness.

“He’s been one of the great players – I don’t say that lightly - the great players of the last eight years,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.

“He’s hit a wall. Can he get himself back fit? If he gets his body right again then he would be a great pick up for anyone.”

The Swans vice-captain has had an injury inturupted season, battling groin and calf complaints.

Taken with pick 30 in the 2008 draft, Hannabery has played 204 games for the red and white, playing a key role in the club’s 2012 premiership while also claiming three All-Australian honours.
