“They (Geelong) have made a play and are enquiring about St Kilda star Jack Steven, who is contracted at Moorabbin for the next two years,” McClure told SEN’s Time On.

“There is some background to this. A few years ago when Steven was a free agent, the club actually met with him but Steven decided it was within his best interests to stay, he signed a five-year extension and he is contracted until the end of 2020.

“The Cats have once again, perhaps smelling blood in the water at St Kilda, enquired about Steven’s availability.

“He is a Lorne boy, he is a local from down that way. They’re trying to use that as leverage but I think it’s going to be very hard for a trade to happen.

“He is 28 at the moment and he is not only St Kilda’s best player but he is their spiritual leader.

“The Saints, as I understand it, will not be entertaining a trade for Jack.

“Jack Steven hasn’t voiced any of his concerns that he wants to leave the club.

“I reckon it’s going to be a straight no from the Saints.”
