Tim Watson has urged St Kilda to chase retired ruckman Shane Mumford this offseason, after reports in the Herald Sun revealed Mumford was considering a return to AFL football next season.
The former premiership ruckman is likely to be considered as a replacement for GWS big man Rory Lobb who may be looking to leave the Giants to return home to Perth, but Mumford is sure to attract interest from numerous clubs.
Watson believes St Kilda would be a good fit for Mumford, insisting that his presence and dominating physicality is something the Saints need, and believes his impact on their midfield would be greater than that of Dan Hannebery, who the Saints are also targeting.

“For me if he’s fit, he’s only 32 years of age, he’s an enforcer, nobody plays with the same physical intensity than he plays with,” said Watson on SEN Breakfast.
“He’s got more presence than Santa Claus.
“At his best, I would think for St Kilda, if you could get Mumford, I think he would have more impact on their midfield than what Dan Hannebery could possibly have on their midfield.
“The aura about him as a player within your organisation, somebody who’s an ultimate competitor, I think that’s great for the rest of the group at St Kilda.
“Where they’re at right now, for somebody to come in like Mumford, who’s physical and they know he’s aggressive, I reckon that’s a great strike for them.”
