Curnow set to miss pre-season following setback to right knee

2019-11-21T12:10+11:00

UPDATE

Charlie Curnow has suffered a fracture to his patella.

Carlton confirmed Curnow slipped on tiles while walking upstairs on Wednesday and will undergo surgery today.

The 22-year-old will be sidelined for up to four months meaning he will miss the club’s pre-season matches ahead of the 2020 season.

“The recovery time for a fractured knee cap is typically 3-4 months,” Head of Football Brad Lloyd told carlton.com.au.

"This will delay his return to running until the New Year, which means it is unlikely he will be available for our pre-season games in late-February and early-March.

“Charlie is understandably very disappointed right now but our entire football club, and I’m sure our members included, will give Charlie all the support he needs to get through this frustrating period.

“He is a resilient character, and we have no doubt, knowing the competitor he is, he will be back to playing good football in the Navy Blue in 2020.”

Carlton forward Charlie Curnow has suffered a reported "untimely" setback in his recovery from a knee injury.

Channel Seven reporter Mark Stevens understands Curnow is set for more surgery after seeking medical advice in the last 24 hours.

Curnow, 22, injured his knee in an unfortunate basketball mishap in October.

The star Blue missed the final seven games of 2019 due to a season-ending medial ligament injury.

He also suffered bone bruising in an early season scare that saw him miss three matches.
