Collingwood utility Jeremy Howe has confirmed that he took a pay cut to join the Magpies at the end of last season after five somewhat indifferent years with the Melbourne Football Club.
The 25-year-old has a rare ability to take spectacular marks at either end of the ground but has so far struggled to string together good form for extended periods in his 111-game career.
Talking on SEN's Crunch Time he revealed that he even passed up a pay rise from the Demons to join the Magpies and work under senior coach Nathan Buckley.
Dermott Brereton: Hey you might tell me to get stuffed on this question or you might give us pure honesty, did you take in relative terms, did you take a pay cut to go to Collingwood?
JH: I did, yeah.
DB: Well done, that's fantastic you had a desire to go somewhere and you were willing to take a haircut to get there.
Mark Robinson: That's a really good question Derm, can I re-phrase it. Did you take more money from Collingwood than what Melbourne were offering you in a new contract?
JH: No.
MR: So, Melbourne were still offering more?
JH: Yeah.
MR: Well... okay.
DB: I had heard that whisper and like most of us Jeremy we make it up when we hears whispers and go with them as fact in the media (laughs).
