Waldron shares a few trade whispers

2016-10-05T15:48+11:00

According to former St Kilda chief executive Brian Waldron there will have to be some quality players sacrificed by Sydney during the trade period to free up their salary cap.

He has been told that Dean Towers is a good chance of going to the Brisbane Lions, while the Swans can only offer midfielder Tom Mitchell a deal worth just $320,000 a season.

“The spy has got a couple of interesting things, Hartlett met with Richmond yesterday I’m told,” said Waldron on SEN radio.

Reece Conca and the Swannies, I think they’re in the mix – and Nankervis from the Swans back to the Tigers that’s the likely move.

“The interesting one at the Swans is Tippett but he can’t go anywhere because he’s on so much money.

“He had 16 possessions in the 2014 Grand Final and the other day he had 10, he wasn’t great… Gary Rohan has had 12 possessions in 120 minutes of Grand Final football.”

Waldron also had an interesting story about Melbourne young forward Jesse Hogan who earlier this week ended speculation surrounding his short-term future by signing a contract extension.

There had been increasing talk over the last six months that a move back west was a strong possibility given the extra money he could earn by going to another club.

“It says a lot of Melbourne and it’s fantastic for them,” explained Waldron.

“But I was with a parent of a Melbourne player on the weekend who said to me that his son said he (Hogan) was gone – on Friday he told me that.

“Then he’s turned around and signed on Monday, so the earth has moved in Fremantle I reckon because I reckon there are some real problems there.

“I think it’s a problem for the AFL, if no one wants to go there that’s a problem, it’s a bit like Brisbane two or three years ago.”
