Whitfield, Gubby and Lambert in hot water with ASADA

2016-10-24T19:30+11:00

Fairfax Media have reported that GWS player Lachie Whitfield, Collingwood General Manger of Football Graeme ‘Gubby’ Allan and Lions’ welfare manager Craig Lambert will all be handed show cause notices by ASADA for breaching the AFL's Anti-Doping Code.

Whitfield was allegedly hidden from drug testers for three days at Lambert’s house when he was at the Giants fearing he may be caught with performance-enhancing substances in his system.

The Age’s Caroline Wilson says that incriminating text messages sent to Whitfield have formed part of the investigation, which the player has always denied as being relevant.

Jon Ralph says that if the trio are found to have breach the drug code, they face lengthy suspensions.

“I think it’s a significant development. I think there may have been some orchestrated outcomes, some managed outcomes if it was just the AFL saying they brought the game into disrepute but if it gets into ASADA fields and waters, it's potentially in the worst case a four year ban," the Herald Sun football reporter said said on SEN's The Run Home.

"It's got huge ramifications not only for GWS, given their number one pick, but also Collingwood who I understand are having discussions behind the scenes now...it seems more and more likely now that they will lose their football manager."
