Trade and fixture two ticks for Saints: Anderson

St Kilda has been praised by most football analysts of late for how they have conducted a well-planned rebuild of a list that needed to be regenerated predominantly through the draft.

In the last two weeks the Saints took another step towards being a premiership contender by making a number of positive moves in the trade period, according to Brett Anderson.

Three players were acquired and next year they will have two first-round draft picks, while more good news followed with an appealing schedule in the recently released fixture for next season.

“St Kilda has come out really well from it, they’ve had a really good couple of weeks with the trade period with what they were able to amass in terms of future picks and their position in this draft,” said Anderson on SEN radio.

“Then obviously securing Jack Steele with Koby Stevens and Nathan Brown in free agency.

“To get four Friday night games and a lot of games at Etihad again (14), with much more of a national exposure for the Saints I think they’re the big winners out of it.”

Blues will likely eye off two with fifth pick

Carlton was able to be active in the trade period and still keep their first selection in the national draft, which Anderson believes could be used to pick up either Sam Petrevski-Seton or Tim Taranto.

“Those are the two I would be thinking in the slot for Carlton at the moment,” he said.

“Look both really good players, it’s going to be really interesting this draft I think it’s fairly even at the top and if you can get someone like a Sam Petrevski-Seton or a Tim Taranto at pick five.

“They did a good job of holding onto that (pick), because for a long time we thought that would have to be used to get Caleb Marchbank.

“The fact they were able to hang onto it and continue their rebuild with a top-ten pick is really important.”
