Terry Wallace gives his top 10, sticks with Hugh

The national draft will take place in Sydney on Friday night and according to Terry Wallace five of the top ten selections will have come from the Sandringham Dragons.

He still believes that long-time pick one favourite Hugh McCluggage will be chosen by Essendon despite a late flurry of popularity coming for midfielder Andy McGrath.

“At number one I have Hugh McCluggage,” said Wallace on SEN radio.

“I’ve stayed with Hugh the whole way through, I know there’s a lot of discussion about him and McGrath – I just think his ability to kick goals from the middle of the ground is the reason I picked him.

“Andy McGrath I’ve got as number two, I haven’t tried to slot them into order (of clubs) it’s just my top ten selections.

“With pick three I have got Tim Taranto because of his ability to overlap, run and carry – a goal assist player, whoever gets him will get a very valuable player.

“At pick four I’ve got Ben Ainsworth, ready to go straight away and can walk in and player senior football in my opinion next year.

“Will play as a small forward and later in his career can come up through the middle of the ground.”

Wallace has tall utility Jack Scrimshaw relatively high in his rankings despite suffering a number of injuries throughout his junior career.

He was fourth on SEN draft analyst Brett Anderson’s final draft big board and touted as possibly the most talented player in this year’s class.

“I’ve got this guy marginally ahead of where some have got him and that is Jack Scrimshaw, can play almost any position on the ground and I have him at pick five,” said Wallace.

“At pick six I have Jack Bowes the Gold Coast academy boy.

“Pick seven I’ve got Sam Petrevski-Seton – he’s probably got the equal upside to anyone else in the draft but consistency is something that he has to get right in his game.

“At eight I have Will Brodie from the Murray Bushrangers, early in the season it looked like he was going to go top three but is still a big-bodied midfielder.

“Nine I’ve got Will Setterfield, the GWS will have to upgrade for that selection.

“Pick ten is Oliver Florent for me.”
