The struggling Melbourne United have dealt a stinging blow to NBL ladder leaders the Sydney Kings, winning 88-81 at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney.
Andrew Gaze’s men were behind their unfancied opponents for the majority of the game, trailing at every break.
A 28 point third quarter by Melbourne blew the game open, and despite a late response by the home team in the final quarter, it was too little, too late.
United captain Chris Goulding was spectacular, picking up a game-high 28 points, three assists and four rebounds and went 6-10 from three point range in a dominant performance.
Fellow guard Casper Ware was also influential with 23 points, eight assists and five rebounds, while centre Majok Majok picked up 11 rebounds on top of his scoring contribution of eight points.
For the losing team, skipper Kevin Lisch continued his impressive season with 24 points, while forward Brad Newley picked up 22 points and seven rebounds.
United’s win comes only a few days after losing centre David Andersen to a potentially serious knee injury during their loss to Perth on Friday night, and also sees them move off the bottom of the NBL ladder.
