Leonard explodes for 41 as Spurs take down Cavs in OT

2017-01-22T16:56+11:00

A career-high 41 points from San Antonio’s Kawhi Leonard has inspired the Spurs to a 118-115 overtime road victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, in what could be a possible lead-up to this year’s NBA Finals.

The Spurs improved their record on their travels to 18-4, as they pulled off the win without the services of key players Tony Parker and Pau Gasol.

The game appeared set to end in regulation, as San Antonio turned a five point three quarter time deficit into a five point lead with less than a minute to play, before Cavaliers superstar LeBron James made two foul shots and a huge three pointer to tie it up at 107.

However, Leonard took control in the extra period scoring six points, while Aussie Patty Mills scored the go ahead three-pointer.

Leonard finished with 41 points, six rebounds and five assists, while LaMarcus Aldridge chipped in with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

James and Kyrie Irving led Cleveland with 29 points apiece and Tristan Thompson scored 14 points and 12 rebounds. Today’s other matches saw narrow home wins for Detroit, New Orleans, and Chicago, as. Atlanta, Miami, Denver and Utah did it slightly easier.

Phoenix scraped home with a two point victory in New York against the Knicks, Houston comfortably overcame Memphis, while Portland secured a 127-123 overtime win in Boston.
