Recently retired Carlton defender Michael Jamison says he has been highly impressed by the way his former club’s young key position players have adapted to the demands of life as an AFL footballer.
The 30-year-old, who played 150 games in the navy blue between 2007 and 2016, says that forward duo Charlie Curnow and Jack Silvagni, along with 2015 number one draft pick Jacob Weitering, have hit the ground running in their AFL careers.
Jamison expects all three to have a long and successful time at the Blues based on their positive starts to footy life.
“They were extremely impressive and what’s more impressive is the type of people they are,” he said on SEN Breakfast.
“We’ve had some talented kids come through in the past and they haven’t been able to adapt to AFL footy and they have sooner than later been out the door.
“Those guys are going to be 10-plus year players for Carlton. Terrific members of the club and really good players.
“As long as they keep on improving at a steady standard that seers the club improve, the supporters should be happy.”
Jamison also touched on the impact coach Brendon Bolton had on the club in his final year of footy, calling his approach to coaching vastly different to previous coaches the former defender played under.
He says that Bolton’s appointment at the end of 2015 was the perfect match for where the club was at.
“Bolts is extremely passionate… he is a fantastic teacher of young people, a fantastic developer of people and has genuine interest in players as people as well, not just as players,” he said.
“Down the bottom and needing to improve and also the demographic of players we had at the club, young players or new players from other clubs that have just come to Carlton and needed to learn a whole new system, you couldn’t have found someone better for where we were at.”
