KB's Take: Third man up rule an absolute dud

2017-04-12T10:00+10:00

So the laws of the game committee will put the 3rd man up ruck rule on the agenda at the next meeting.

AFL footy manager Simon Lethlean said it’s hard to have a view after just 3 rounds but he is watching with interest.

Lethlean said the change to the 3rd man ruck rule was for the safety for ruckman and for the preservation for ruck contests.

By making a ruck rule change Lethlean and co may have killed off the ruck contest.

For some clubs don’t even nominate now for a ruck contest.

The rule change has created a monster for the time being.

The beauty about Australian Rules is that there is no limit where a player can go after the opening bounce – sorry, tip off.

You can’t legislate to make players jump at a ruck contest.

Laws of the Game committee was worried about 3 players going up in the ruck, now it seems there is some concern that no one in the future will contest a ruck contest.

It’s a simple game Aussie Rules, bounce the ball and game on. Doesn’t matter if 1, 2, 3 or 4 players contest a ruck contest.

For it’s a 360 degree game, you can go wherever you want and attack the ball as you desire.

3rd man up rule was always a dud one.

I’m KB, that’s my take.
