The long standing negotiations between the players and the AFL over a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) are very close to a successful conclusion, according to Sam McClure.
SEN's news-breaker says a deal has been agreed in-principle and is expected to be announced within the next week.
“I think the CBA is done,” he said on SEN Breakfast.
“As we sit here now...I think there have been significant inroads in the CBA (negotiations), and I think it will be announced as early as next week.”
McClure said the players have had a couple of victories, regarding receiving a fixed percentage of revenue and also an increase in the incremental pay rises each year.
The AFL’s original offer would have seen players receive a 20 percent pay rise in the first year of a potential six-year agreement, before increases of just one percent per year in following years.
“I think the players have had a win,” he said.
“I think they will get 28 percent and I think they’ve had a win in the increase incrementally, it was going to be one percent (every year) that the AFL were selling (after the first year).
“I think it’s going to be increased, not a whole lot."
Massive inroads made in CBA negotiations. Players will end up with 28% total revenue. Total Player Payments to increase 20% in 2018.
