Danny Frawley: Port Adelaide a genuine premiership contender

2017-04-30T13:45+10:00

SEN football commentator Danny Frawley has declared Port Adelaide a “genuine premiership contender” on the back of their impressive start to the season.

The Power are four wins from six games and yesterday obliterated the Lions at the Gabbba by 83 points, prompting Frawley to declare the Power the real deal.

“I think they’re a genuine premiership contender,” he said on SEN’s AFL coverage on Sunday.

“They’ve got their mojo back.”

Frawley was also full of praise for a number of the Power’s individual efforts, including a more midfield-focused Chad Wingard.

“[Chad] Wingard went into the midfield yesterday. Without [Travis] Boak in the team he played totally midfield and was the best player on the ground. He’s just different to [Sam] Powell-Pepper, Ollie Wines and Boak.

“I know it was only Brisbane but that’s the best Charlie Dixon’s moved. That’s his best game for the club.

“And I watched their backline closely...You don’t get to see Port much but [Tom] Jonas, he doesn’t get beat. He’s a ripper."

The Power are currenntly sitting in fifth place on the ladder and have defeated Sydney, Fremantle, Carlton and Brisbane this season, with losses coming against the high-flying Crows and Giants.

They face West Coast in the twilight fixture next Saturday at the Adelaide Oval.
