A Scott Pendlebury-led Collingwood ended Geelong's unbeaten start to the season with an inspired 29-point win at the MCG.
Our Inside Football experts take a look at the individual performances of each player...
GEELONG – 11.12 (78)
Jed BEWS – 6
First game for the season. Had Fasolo and from that perspective did well given one of Pies’ goals came when he was off ground.
Aaron BLACK – 2
Good form lasted just the one week. Seven effective disposals and no goals. Does he return to the VFL?
Mark BLICAVS – 2
Another poor day in the middle. At some point coaching staff will work out he can’t play midfield to save himself; nine effective disposals.
Nakia COCKATOO – 2
First goal of game then couldn’t get into the contest at all. Tried to be physical with a few Pies but it backfired.
Quiet by his standards in first half (eight effective disposals) and even less in second. Ribs a concern, as he was way off?
Mitch DUNCAN – 7
In terms of sheer possession numbers he was best of Cats’ onballers; 27 disposals, seven inside-50s and a goal.
Cameron GUTHRIE – 5
Plugged away rotating half/back midfield but in the end his effort didn’t amount to a whole lot.
Tom HAWKINS – 2
One goal in first half only influence. Timing of his leap for marks was well off. Well beaten by Dunn.
Lachie HENDERSON – 6
Had job on Moore who caused him some issues, particularly in the first half. Battled hard and certainly not the worst.
Quiet first half (9 disposals) then tried to lift but impact not commensurate. Did lay team-high nine tackles so effort solid.
Darcy LANG – 3
Mixed good and bad. Sometimes looks assured other times he plays VFL footy and pays the price.
Tom LONERGAN – 5
Got the job on big Yank Cox and handy enough. Under siege at times and lots of his touches were cheapies out the back.
Andrew MACKIE – 7
Took Elliott and given scoreboard actually did a reasonable job. Grabbed plenty of the ball himself to end among the best.
Sam MENEGOLA – 3
First half horrible. If weight of possessions is your benchmark he was okay. On naked eye scale he offered little.
Steven MOTLOP – 3
One great goals only highlight of an error-filled performance ion which his inability to make correct decisions is diabolical.
Jordan MURDOCH – 5
One of few Cats to look steady, particularly in the first half. Effort faded as game dragged on; 17 disposals.
Brandan PARFITT – 4
Kid showed his class when he got the ball. One nice goal then hamstring flew out of his leg in final term.
Joel SELWOOD – 3
After 43 possessions last week was held to 17 by Greenwood who wore him cheap suit style from start to finish. Unusual quiet one.
Zac SMITH – 1
Didn’t have a kick in the first half. Tried to lift in third term but had zero influence on the flow of the game. Didn’t take a mark.
Tom STEWART – 5
Defended pretty well for inexperienced player. Modest in terms of rebound but good experience for the mature-aged recruit.
Harry TAYLOR – 4
Couple of nice marks but just looks like a different player when he returns to defence. One goal in first term.
Zach TUOHY – 8
Close to Cats’ best again. Rebounded well and defended stoutly when he had to; 36 disposals and non-stop running.
COLLINGWOOD – 15.17 (107)
Taylor ADAMS – 8
Ran hard and despite a bevy of errant disposals he won enough of it to be a huge driving force in the middle.
Tim BROOMHEAD – 4
Flitted in and out for one goal and a couple of inside-50s. Played small part in the win without going overboard.
Mason COX – 4
Big man provided a target both forward and in the ruck. Got a great capacity to drop a mark.
Jack CRISP – 7
Got under guard of Cats to grab 25 disposals. Importantly 21 of them hit the target given efficiency is his issue.
Lynden DUNN – 8
Had to man the bigger Hawkins and did a wonderful job to keep the big Cat to one goal and five kicks.
Jamie ELLIOTT – 4
Great battle against Mackie. Ended with one goal from five kicks in a quiet sort of day.
Alex FASOLO – 4
One kick in first half and six for the match. Two goals but for the most part wasn’t a huge factor.
Tyson GOLDSACK – 5
Defensively had Cockatoo covered and that was the key to his role. Only six kicks but did what was required.
Levi GREENWOOD – 8
Tagged Selwood and had him covered in what was a huge win for the side given the skipper’s importance.
Brodie GRUNDY – 6
Dominated ruck and was far superior to Smith who couldn’t get warm. Early in game set up clearance domination.
Relished space afforded to him by Cats in first half (12 disposals) and backed up with another 14 after main break. One goal.
Jeremy HOWE – 6
Didn’t take a hanger which was slightly disappointing for fans. Did his job from half back without starring.
Brayden MAYNARD – 3
Not sighted in terms of offensive input. Didn’t matter as others took control of the game.
Darcy MOORE – 6
Played best first half of year (10 disposals, two goals) and while effort faded his influence early was important.
Scott PENDLEBURY – 8
Skipper rose to the challenge yet again against Cats to grab 33 disposal, six inside-50s, nine tackles and a goal.
Tom PHILLIPS – 5
Good early then drifted out of the contest to a degree. Highlight was a goal and five inside-50s to help keep wheels turning.
Henry SCHADE – 5
Had job on Taylor and did reasonably well. Did get caught a few times in the back half but will learn from experience.
Last time he played a bad game Harry Holt was still sizing up the surf. Just the 13 effective disposals but found space to use footy.
Josh SMITH – 8
Great start helped set the side in road to victory. Ball use was a highlight of his game given 23 of his 26 disposals hit the target.
Adam TRELOAR – 7
Five inside-50s, 26 disposals, five tackles and gut running kept the engine room ticking over. Solid effort.
Travis VARCOE – 5
Former Cat was causing some havoc until his hamstring went late in the third term; 14 disposals and rebound good.
Daniel WELLS – 6
Former Roo worked into game to be a factor. Used footy with precision and linked well off a wing.
