Bennell finished at Fremantle says Sheahan

Former Herald Sun Chief Football Writer Mike Sheahan believes it’s unlikely we will ever see Harley Bennell ever don a Fremantle guernsey.

The 24-year old is under investigation by Dockers officials over his behaviour at a WAFL game on Saturday.

Footage showed Bennell pulling aside his cousin Traye Bennell for a chat, and in the process interrupting the three quarter time address by Peel Thunder coach Cam Shepherd. He was then spoken to by Fremantle assistant coach Roger Hayden before leaving the ground.

“Well he’s never going to play another game Harley Bennell,” Sheahan said on SEN Breakfast.

“Apart from his physical problems, he’s got soft tissue injuries, and his behaviour is abysmal.

“His wings were wobbly (on Saturday), I wouldn’t have liked to see him walk the plank off that ground, and he’s had the recent plane episode.”

Bennell is yet to debut for the club since arriving at the club from Gold Coast at the end of 2015, having been curtailed by persistent calf injuries, and was last month kicked off a flight after airline staff believed he was affected by alcohol.

The Dockers received plenty of criticism for their recruiting direction during the early part of the season, but Tim Watson said the decisions they have made are starting to come off.

“Their recruiting that didn’t look like it was going great early days, and we all jump at shadows and come to conclusions far too early, you look at (Cam) McCarthy, he’s going to be a very good player,” he said.

“(Shane) Kersten I’ve seen him play the best two games I’ve ever seen him play the last two weeks for Fremantle.

“They’re also moving the ball a lot better than they did too. (Brad) Hill we know he’s a running machine, and also (Joel) Hamling been very good for them down back.”
