Oliver kicked the 'point of the year': Bartlett

2017-05-15T13:00+10:00

Clayton Oliver’s wondergoal from the forward pocket against Adelaide on Saturday night, shouldn’t have stood according to Kevin Bartlett.

The young Demon midfielder slammed the ball onto his boot from on the boundary line in the right-hand forward pocket at Adelaide Oval and saw the checkside kick fly through the big sticks, making it a contender for ‘Goal of the Year’.

However, Bartlett says that he is convinced the ball hit the post – in fact both posts.

“It ricocheted from the right-hand goal post into the left-hand goal post and they gave it a goal,” he said.

The 403-gamer said he couldn’t believe that the goal wasn’t at least reviewed by the score review official.

“How can you hit both posts – the ball just slammed off the right-hand goal post, it wasn’t picked up by anyone,” Bartlett asked.

“The umpires didn’t pick it up, the goal umpire never picked it up (that) it hit both posts. Whoever was doing the third-man review up in the box didn’t pick it up and it wasn’t stopped before they bounced the ball.

“Play on, goal, Clayton Oliver…it hit both posts.

“That’s remarkable isn’t it?!”
