Richmond a big chance to topple injury-riddled Giants: Huddo

2017-05-19T18:25+10:00

SEN football commentator Anthony Hudson believes Richmond are a huge possibility of ending their three-game losing streak by defeating the injury-hit GWS Giants at Spotless Stadium on Saturday.

With the highly touted Giants already facing a host of injury concerns, it was announced earlier on Friday that dangerous forward Devon Smith will miss the club’s next six games after suffering a knee injury during training this week.

Despite the return of in-form forward Toby Greene back into the side after serving a suspension obtained from the club’s narrow win over the Bulldogs three weeks ago, Hudson considers the loss of yet another best 22 player will severely hurt the Giants – giving Richmond fans a huge glimmer of hope for an upset to steady their once 5-0 season.

“I give Richmond a big chance in this game,” he said on SEN Afternoons.

“The injury list that the Giants have is massive… (Smith out) is a big blow.”

Smith now joins Jeremy Finlayson, Tendai Mzungu, Jacob Hopper, Ryan Griffen, Will Setterfield, Nick Haynes, Stephen Coniglio, Matt Buntine and Adam Kennedy on the sidelines for GWS, with the club’s depth being put to the ultimate test as they aim to go further than their shock preliminary final exit to the reigning premiers last year.

Former star Tiger Brett Deledio also remains without a firm return date from a groin injury that has kept him from debuting for his new side.
