KB's Take | Clubs should be lining up for star defender

2017-05-24T09:40+10:00

Alex Rance is a great full-back.

Today, Jon Ralph in the Herald Sun suggests the Richmond star could be the greatest of them all – or at least stand proudly alongside the likes of Stephen Silvagni, Geoff Southby, David Dench, Matthew Scarlett and Dustin Fletcher.

Rance is locked into the Tigers long-term.

So what caught my eye today, was the second best full-back going around in my opinion, who is out of contract and weighing up his options.

That is Gold Coast Suns co-captain Steven May.

May has Rance like qualities, in fact he has a string to his bow that maybe Rance doesn’t have and that is the ability to play forward.

May, like Rance, attacks the ball and plays it on its merits and May is rarely beaten one-on-one and has an attacking mind-set – similar to the Tiger champ.

Since the start of 2015, a table today in The Age shows that when May doesn’t play for the Suns they have no chance of winning.

They are zero wins and 11 losses when he’s been out injured or suspended.

May says he is in no hurry to re-sign with the Suns and will wait for the AFL’s new salary cap to be finalised before he makes a decision.

Every club would love Alex Rance, why not have a crack at the next best!?

I’m KB, that’s my take.
