Toby Greene is in the Buddy category: Lyon

2017-05-29T09:15+10:00

GWS Giant, Toby Greene, should be considered in the same vein as Sydney champion Lance Franklin, according to Garry Lyon.

The two-time Melbourne leading goal kicker has praised Greene’s capacity to win games off his own boot, after the 23-year-old bagged the two sealing majors in GWS’ eight-point win over West Coast.

“You need to put Greene in the Buddy category for his ability to influence and win games,” Lyon said on SEN Breakfast.

Furthermore, Lyon continued to applaud Greene, declaring he is a million dollar commodity and is more vital than midfielder Josh Kelly.

“Toby Greene is the player who I would be throwing all the money at,” Lyon said.

“He is more important than Kelly. He is a better player than Josh Kelly because he is multidimensional. I’m not knocking Kelly, he is extraordinary. That’s how highly I rate Greene.

“Greene won the game for them, he is a game winner. He would have to be in the three or four highest paid players at GWS.

“As an open market proposition, he is up there with the very best. He is worth a million dollars.”

Veteran journalist, Mike Sheahan, echoed Lyon’s sentiments, acknowledging Greene’s ability in the air and at ground level.

“He is unique,” Shehan said.

“He is good over his head and brilliant on the ground. He does it regularly.”
