Hogg lauds the ‘greatest ODI bowler of all time’

2017-06-06T18:05+10:00

Former Australian paceman Rodney Hogg says Mitchell Starc deserves to be recognised as the best bowler in the history of one-day cricket.

The 27-year old has taken 113 wickets in 67 matches, at an average of under 20. This includes five five-wicket hauls and 22 wickets in the 2015 World Cup which saw him named Player of the Tournament.

He believes his ability to deliver in conditions that are far from bowler friendly puts him at the top of the order.

“I reckon he’s best one-day international bowler of all time,” Hogg said on SEN’s The Run Home.

“I’ve looked back at, (Joel) Garner’s got a slightly better bowling average, Dennis Lillee obviously, the other great’s in there, but they were all on wickets that had a bit in them.

“This bloke rocks up to these roads all the time, and his strike rate of a wicket every 24 balls, he’s got to be pretty close to the greatest bowler of all time.

“If you’re playing on green tops and get a wicket every 30 balls – fine. But when you’re playing on these absolute roads…I just find that absolutely amazing.”

Starc has been in fine form during the current Champions Trophy having taken four wickets in eight deliveries against Bangladesh to wrap up their innings and will be again looking to deliver during Saturday’s must-win clash against England.
