With Gary Ablett starring, Gold Coast fought off a late challenge to record its second win over Hawthorn this season.
Our Inside Football experts take a look at the individual performances of each player...
HAWTHORN – 12.7 (79)
Kaiden BRAND – 3
Had to try and take Lynch and that was a difficult task made tougher after sustaining injury early in game.
Shaun BURGOYNE – 6
Battled hard both midfield and forward for 24 touches and four inside-50s. Handy but certainly didn’t star.
Ryan BURTON – 7
Among the Hawks’ better players again in defence. Works hard to provide an option offensively while defending at same time.
James COUSINS – 3
Youngster found the going tough and mustered only 13 possessions. One tackle and one inside-50.
Taylor DURYEA – 4
Not the same player some thought he was going to be a few years ago. Got beaten late by first-year player Ainsworth.
Josh GIBSON – 2
Had to stand Wright at times and was giving away 14cm so no match for the young Sun. Struggled. Ended day with injured groin.
Jack GUNSTON – 8
Hawks’ best forward on the day with five goals. Great return to form in a beaten side. Takes season goal tally to 15.
Blake HARDWICK – 2
Youngster struggled to get into the game. Had more tackles (seven) than kicks (six) which is never a great sign.
Billy HARTUNG – 2
Won the ball but his skill level and decision-making was atrocious. Not sure he’s part of the future at the club.
Ricky HENDERSON – 7
Among better players with willingness to run and create something off half-back/wing. Did what he could with 22 touches.
Dan HOWE – 4
Not sighted in a defence that was under the pump all day. He did what he could and just needs to get more games in.
Will LANGFORD – 5
Battered around in the midfield but a lot of what he did was under pressure. Seven tackles and four inside-50s.
Ben MCEVOY – 6
Struggled early but last 45 minutes was really solid. Kicked a goal and had 32 hit-outs and two clearances.
Tom MITCHELL – 7
Won plenty of the ball (39 disposals) but influence not as pronounced as numbers suggest. Seven tackles, six clearances.
Tim O'BRIEN – 6
Quiet early then came to life in final term with two goals that spurred team back into the game.
Paul PUOPOLO – 3
Struggled to impact the contest with 11 disposals and five tackles. Just not having impact he once did.
Jarryd ROUGHEAD – 4
Skipper couldn’t get into the contest at all either forward or in the ruck. Hard to believe he had 21 disposals.
Liam SHIELS – 6
Vice captainworked hard with team-high 10 tackles and 19 disposals. Battled hard but influence not pronounced.
James SICILY – 4
Floated in and out of the game. Looked better when he was coming from behind the ball rather than approaching it from forward.
Isaac SMITH – 7
Tried hard but injured hip early and never looked right from that point. Effort was there but impact limited from 24 disposals.
Kade STEWART – 3
Late inclusion for Breust and didn’t have an impact apart from one goal in second term. Just keep persisting with him.
Went to Ablett after the little master started to get on top. Found that a difficult task given flow against for long periods.
GOLD COAST – 13.17 (95)
Gary ABLETT – 9
Huge with 37 possessions (15 contested), 10 tackles, eight clearances, four inside-50s and two goals.
Ben AINSWORTH – 5
Kid’s highlight came in final term when he took a great contested mark and goaled after a 50-metre penalty; 18 disposals.
Michael BARLOW – 7
Strong body caused the Hawks some problems both in midfield and up forward. Laid seven tackles, five inside-50s and one goal.
Aaron HALL – 6
Struggled early but worked into the game to end with 23 disposals and five inside-50s. Steady without starring.
Pearce HANLEY – 6
Kicking was a little off at times. Won enough ball to be a factor but certainly not at his linking best.
Jesse JOYCE – 6
Half-back did his job with minimum of fuss. Real role player who gets the job done in the back half.
Had Gunston early but was moved and looked better when not asked to defend a slipper forward; 20 disposals.
Sean LEMMENS – 3
Quiet one. Five kicks, two clearances and four tackles. Will he keep his spot?
Jack LESLIE – 3
Played role on Gunston among others. Still looks a little shaky at times with ball in hand but kept battling.
Jesse LONERGAN – 6
Bulldozed way through the engine room for six tackles and 22 possessions. Getting better by the week as inside-mid.
Tom LYNCH – 7
Ended day with two goals from 10 marks. Did things when they needed to be done in a key role.
Jarryd LYONS – 8
Former Crow continues to improve as a Sun. Second only to Ablett with 28 possessions and added four inside-50s.
Jack MARTIN – 6
Kicked goal of the day off the left side in the third term. Stats not huge (15) but did enough to keep Hawks at bay.
Brandon MATERA – 5
Two goals and another disallowed after review. Season tally now up to 21 which represents a pretty good year.
Steven MAY – 9
Controlled the game from full back. Beat opponents and was able to do so while gathering 24 disposals.
Matt ROSA – 5
Under pressure a lot around the ball. Won a bit of ball but he wasn’t one of the game’s better performers.
Adam SAAD – 6
Broke lines from defence at times and was able to put Hawks on the back foot. Three inside-50s and 17 possessions.
Alex SEXTON – 3
Quiet game. Didn’t hit the scoreboard, had six kicks and laid one tackle. Needs to London Fog and lift.
David SWALLOW – 7
Burrowed on to win 26 possessions, six tackles, six clearances and two inside-50s. Handy support for Ablett.
Mackenzie WILLIS – 3
What you talking about Willis? Kid playing fourth game did a few good things to keep his name in senior side.
Jarrod WITTS – 7
Got on top of McEvoy early and then effort petered out a little as big Hawk got on top. Moved well and kept working.
Peter WRIGHT – 7
Grabbed 10 marks, kicked two goals and wreaked some havoc on an under-sized Hawk defence.
