Daw talk a "wasted conversation" says former Roo

2017-07-10T16:13+10:00

SEN footy analyst David King has dismissed talk about Majak Daw as a “wasted conversation”.

As Daw’s career lurches from one disaster to the next – he had four disposals against Fremantle after managing a combined total of 11 in losses to the Bulldogs and Gold Coast – speculation about Daw’s future has intensified.

The 26-year-old, who has played 29 games over the past five seasons, is signed until the end of 2019.

“I can’t remember a player that gets spoken about as often and regularly as Majak does that doesn’t play really high level footy,” king told SEN’s The Run Home.

“I just think you don’t waste conversations on Majak.

“His football is not at a level where you can select him with any surety.”

King questioned how much longer the club persisted with the Sudanese product, adding it was ruck or bust for the struggling Roo.

“How long do you persist with him?,” he said.

“How long do you keep going down this path.

“I just think its pointless conversation about Majak until he can deliver something.

“I think Majak makes it as a ruckman or he doesn’t make it at all.”

While boasting raw athleticism, Daw lacks the footy smarts to play key position and is said to lack an engine large enough to accommodate a full-time ruck role.

It shapes as an interesting off-season for coach Brad Scott given the speculation about Daw and former All Australian Todd Goldstein.

While speculation intensifies the club will attempt to use Goldstein as trade bait, King doubted his trade value.

“Is he in the top five or six ruckman in the competition right now?” he said.

“His form has slipped over the past couple of seasons.

“Maybe he doesn’t draw that first round selection that some are saying is a given and I’m not convinced too many clubs out there would give up a first round draft selection.”
