We’ll talk if star Giant wants out: Blues footy boss

2017-07-11T08:40+10:00

Carlton football operations manager Andrew McKay says that the club will open to chatting to GWS on-baller Josh Kelly should he want to return home to Victoria at season’s end.

The 22-year-old is yet to commit the Giants beyond 2017, with a host of Victorian clubs believed to be chasing the midfielder.

With the Blues previously only having been rumoured to be in the race for Kelly, McKay has now confirmed that they will want to speak with him should he decide to move clubs.

“We would love to chat to him if that’s the case,” he told SEN Breakfast.

“It’s not the case at the moment (and) our club policy is not to talk about potentials, particularly if they’re at other clubs still.”

Kelly is in career-best form this season, averaging 30 disposals a game inside the highly-talented GWS midfield.

McKay also touched on the contract status of forward-turned-backman Liam Jones, saying they are close to finalising a new deal for him to stay as a Blue.

“Liam Jones is playing some really good footy for us…he’s certainly delivering for us and we will get to his contract,” he said.

“We are close, we are in good discussion with his management at the moment it shouldn’t be too far away we would have thought.

“To be honest, I imagine a number of people would have been thinking this will be Liam’s last year at the start of the year so it’s a real credit to him to turn it around like he has.”
