Ratings | Round 18 – Brisbane v. Carlton

2017-07-23T19:45+10:00

Bottom of the ladder Brisbane smacked Carlton off the park in the first half at the Gabba before having to fend off a strong Blues' revival to record its fourth win of the season.

Our Inside Football experts take a look at the individual performances of each player...

BRISBANE – 17.10 (112)

Harris ANDREWS – 6

Great battle with Casboult and McKay. Could claims a points victory – just - over both.

Jake BARRETT – 6

Good at pumping the ball into the forward 50m zone. Underrated value across the midfield.

Ryan BASTINAC – 5

Threatened early to play a big part. Only performed in patches though, despite the Lions overall dominance.

Dayne BEAMS – 8

All class. Never far from the action and not only set up goals, he bagged three of his own.

Jarrod BERRY – 6

His lack of a consistent finishing touch undid some of his hard work.

Cedric COX – 6

Landed his first career goal in style on the run from 50m. He added much-needed energy and speed in the mid-field.

Darcy GARDINER – 5

Quiet achiever. Vital part of the defence which kept Carlton to just three first-half goals.

Eric HIPWOOD – 5

Kept presenting and proved troublesome for Jones. Bagged two goals including a 50m bomb.

Ben KEAYS – 4

Did a few useful things including two goal assists.

Ryan LESTER – 7

Came off the bench to be a strong influence in opening goal blitz. Also registered a second term major. Then had a hand in defence.

Stefan MARTIN – 7

Not only had the better of Kreuzer, but his work in general play (19 disposals) was notable.

Rhys MATHIESON – 6

Hard at it. As usual continually ducked or drove his head into an opponent’s arms when tackled which helped him to four frees.

Sam MAYES – 7

Solid four quarter effort and arguably his best game for the season.

Hugh MCCLUGGAGE – 6

Racked-up 100 per cent for disposal efficiency. It showed how well he used his 17 touches.

Daniel MCSTAY – 5

Stood strong against Curnow who was a handful after half time.

Daniel RICH – 6

Calm in a crisis late when Carlton started a charge. Landed a 55m goal on the run to end the Blues’ seven goal run.

Tom ROCKLIFF – 7

Don’t be fooled by his 10 disposals. Used as a tagger and brilliantly shut-down Gibbs. Is tagging his new role?

Josh SCHACHE – 4

Possibly the only Lion not to really shine at some stage. Still learning the game.

Lewis TAYLOR – 6

Got on his own a hell of a lot. Only downside his tendency to be a bit selfish in front of goal.

Josh WALKER – 7

Stunning first half, both in attack and as the back-up ruckman. Not as dominant in second half but overall a solid effort.

Alex WITHERDEN – 6

First-year player who continues to impress. Hard at it and showed his willingness to put his body on the line.

Dayne ZORKO – 9

Sizzled in opening term with 11 disposals. Finished with 26 touches, three goals and possibly three Brownlow votes.

CARLTON – 11.16 (82)

Levi CASBOULT – 6

Finished with two goals but it could easily have been a couple more. Troublesome for the Lions defenders at times.

David CUNINGHAM – 5

Kicked-started the seven goal run across the third and fourth terms with a major in general play.

Charlie CURNOW – 6

Rising Star nominee who took some big grabs and kicked two goals. Competed all game at least.

Sam DOCHERTY – 7

Constantly mopped up across half back. He lacked teammates with the same commitment.

Bryce GIBBS – 4

No disposals in opening quarter. First time that’s happened (any quarter) since 2009. Only eight touches. Shut-down by Rockliff.

Nick GRAHAM – 5

Another Blue who played in patches and could not be happy with just 13 disposals.

Liam JONES – 4

Never got settled. Four disposals until half time. Seven for the game. Needed to do more.

Sam KERRIDGE – 6

Lifted considerably in second half when the Blues made a charge. Too late she cried!

Matthew KREUZER – 6

Intriguing battle with Martin. Oddly, was Blues second highest disposals by half time.

Jed LAMB – 5

Marked by Rich. Only managed two behinds as he struggled to have any real influence.

Harrison MACREADIE – 4

Was part of a very loose defence early on. Spent some time on Walker. Had better games.

Harry MCKAY – 6

Impressive debut. A couple of big marks and even landed a goal. Future is bright.

Marc MURPHY – 7

Big four quarters especially when some of his well-credentialed teammates went missing. Easily Carlton’s best.

Sam PETREVSKI-SETON – 6

Really got going in second half. Partially tamed Zorko after half-time. Might have taken a dive when Zorko brushed his chin.

Lachie PLOWMAN – 4

Had a failed stint on Zorko. Overall a disappointing day in the office.

Jack SILVAGNI – 3

Shades of his old man with a reaching one handed spoil across Hipwood. Only highlight.

Kade SIMPSON – 6

Plugged away and one of three Blues to have 10 or more disposals by half time.

Dale THOMAS – 4

Spent a lot of time agitating the opposition. Should have concentrated more on finding the ball.

Jacob WEITERING – 4

Returned just five disposals. At least they were with 100 per cent efficiency and he did have some effect guarding Schache.

Tom WILLIAMSON – 4

Rarely sighted. Just the 10 disposals which included only one in the last term when Carlton made a late challenge.

Matthew WRIGHT – 6

Got going in the third quarter and landed one of seven straight Carlton majors.
