Ratings | Round 18 – Richmond v. GWS Giants

2017-07-23T16:15+10:00

Richmond stamped its credentials as a top-four contender when it smashed Greater Western Sydney in the wet after quarter time.

Our Inside Football experts take a look at the individual performances of each player...

RICHMOND – 9.10 (64)

David ASTBURY – 5

Defender had a few shaky moments early but then settled into the game. Did his bit without starring.

Nathan BROAD – 6

Looked awkward at times playing lock down role in defence on Greene. Kept him to one goal which is a fair effort.

Dan BUTLER – 3

Youngster couldn’t get into the game at all. No goals, two inside-50s and two tackles.

Josh CADDY – 4

Another game where he teased but ultimately failed to deliver anything meaningful; 14 possessions.

Jason CASTAGNA – 4

Slippery half forward sealed the win with a goal in final term. Apart from that was only a bit player.

Trent COTCHIN – 7

Skipper put his head in the hole enough to be a factor. Not clean given conditions but was able to scrap his way to 27 disposals.

Shane EDWARDS – 4

Missed some chances for goal in second term and another in the third. Only 12 possessions and three tackles.

Brandon ELLIS – 6

Won plenty of the pill from a wing (23 possessions) and was running hard all day to give the side an option.

Corey ELLIS – 5

Youngster played down back and worked into the game pretty well. Able to showcase his speed at times.

Shaun GRIGG – 7

Got plenty of the sherrin (21 touches) and added five inside-50s and five tackles. Did his bit all day.

Dylan GRIMES – 4

Not asked to do too much in what was a quiet one for the rangy defender; 11 disposals.

Kane LAMBERT – 6

Jagged a nice snap goal late in second quarter and provided some run because he was able to find some space.

Dustin MARTIN – 8

Got going in second term after a quiet opening to be a factor in getting side back into the game; 31 disposals, 11 clearances.

Kamdyn MCINTOSH – 5

Half-back/wingman was handy. Missed a sitter in third term then nailed a set-shot from same spot two minutes later.

Toby NANKERVIS – 6

Rucked against Mumford and held his own. Kicked a great snap goal in third term that helped keep foot on throat of Giants.

Dion PRESTIA – 6

Won the ball pretty well but again his disposal was questionable. Five inside-50s and three clearances.

Alex RANCE – 7

Had a variety of opponents including Johnson but was still able to find a way to get in the way of the Giants all day.

Jack RIEWOLDT – 5

One goal in second term and another in third but was well beaten on the day by Davis.

Daniel RIOLI – 3

Got side going with team’s opening goal in second term. Not really great conditions for a player still very light on.

Jayden SHORT – 3

Small defender was hardly sighted. Just seven possessions and three inside-50s.

Ivan SOLDO – 2

Slippery conditions didn’t suit. Competed hard but very little impact on the flow of the game. Four disposals and 13 hit-outs.

Nick VLASTUIN – 8

Played loose role in defence at times and was brilliant at that; 11 marks, 21 disposals and among Tigers’ best.

GWS GIANTS – 6.9 (45)

Aidan CORR – 5

Tall defender battled hard. Helped by wet conditions but certainly not the worst.

Phil DAVIS – 8

Put Riewoldt to bed, tucked him and then left the room and flicked the switch on the way out. Close to Giant’s best.

Toby GREENE – 3

As much as he’s a good player he’s equally undisciplined and it reared its head again. After early goal that was about it.

Nick HAYNES – 5

Rebounding defender okay early then went forward in second half to play a role on Rance. Kicked one goal.

Steve JOHNSON – 3

Veteran forward struggled to find space and looked a yard off the pace. Only kicked 13 goals from 13 games this year.

Josh KELLY – 7

Playmaker worked hard to grab 23 possessions, including five inside-50s and ix tackles. Solid effort.

Matthew KENNEDY – 4

Played midfield for a long periods and okay in patches; 15 possessions and four tackles.

Rory LOBB – 2

Second ruck option struggled. One mark and three kicks not enough to help team.

Shane MUMFORD – 6

Big man battled his guts out; 33 hit-outs, six tackles and three marks. Only 12 disposals.

Tendai MZUNGU – 3

Former Docker looked slower than a helicopter over a nudist colony at times; 10 disposals and one tackles.

Jonathon PATTON – 3

Big man’s only goal came in final term when game was effectively done. Not great conditions for a marking forward.

Harry PERRYMAN – 4

Great experience for the youngster who showed glimpses of his talent in game seven; 14 possessions and four tackles.

Tom SCULLY – 7

Running wingman was one of few Giants to find some space and look dangerous; 21 disposals and five tackles.

Will SETTERFIELD – 5

First-gamer who looks a lot like former Saints and Hawk Joel Smith. Ended day with 12 disposals and six tackles.

Heath SHAW – 7

Veteran waved and screamed his way through the afternoon. Tried hard and did what he could given side was under siege.

Dylan SHIEL – 6

Copped an injury in second term but returned. Going well until injured again late and was done for the day.

Devon SMITH – 6

Struggled to impact the flow of the contest despite grabbing 23 possessions. Six inside-50s and four clearances.

Adam TOMLINSON – 4

Tall defender plugged away all day but issue is he doesn’t win enough ball to hurt the opposition.

Callan WARD – 8

Relished conditions to grab team-high 37 disposals, nine clearances and 16 contested possessions.

Lachie WHITFIELD – 6

Started well with an early goal and kept battling. Not his best game and wet conditions probably didn’t suit him.

Zac WILLIAMS – 7

Got plenty of the ball from half-back (28 disposals) and worked hard to keep the Tigers at bay.

Nathan WILSON – 7

Rebounder did some good things from the GWS back-half. Found the ball 22 times and seven inside-50s.
