Ward slams "ordinary" Giants

2017-07-24T07:52+10:00

Greater Western Sydney co-captain Callan Ward has slammed his side's form, labelling it as ordinary.

Speaking to SEN Breakfast's Sam McClure after the Giants yesterday gave up a 20-point quarter-time lead and lost to Richmond at the MCG, Ward said inconsistency was proving costly.

"I'm more frustrated than anything else,'' he said.

"I know that we can play really good footy, we've proven that over a number of years and we've proven that this year as well, but our inconsistency is what's really letting us down and it's probably been oridinary for two or three months now, almost the whole season, especially the last eight weeks.

"I can't put my finger on it. We're trying to find answers, we're changing training, we're doing different things but we're just out of form and our inconsistency is just killing us at the moment."

Ward, who amassed 37 disposals and nine clearnces in the defeat, said there were positives for the Giants who remain in the top four despite winning just one of their past six matches.

"I think we're a long way off our best, I think that's a huge positive in itself. I think the players just need to believe that we are good enough,'' he said.

"I think at the moment we're not playing with confidence and we're losing contested ball and those two things together, it's a bad mix."
