Sam McClure has stood by his report that Adelaide young gun Jake Lever met with Melbourne despite the Crows defender denying the claim.
The 21-year-old yesterday described the report as “laughable” on Adelaide radio, but McClure told SEN Breakfast that he isn’t backing down.
“He’s not being truthful is what I’d say to that,” McClure said.
“He met with them (Melbourne)."
“Adelaide didn’t deny that he did. Melbourne don’t deny that he did.
“I’m not sure why Jake would say what he did, but I’m standing by it.”
Despite the meeting, McClure said that it doesn’t necessarily mean that the in-demand defender is leaving the Crows.
“There is a very, very good chance that he stays at Adelaide,” he said.
“His meeting at Melbourne is not us saying that he’s going – this is the way that footy is going.”
Lever said that he hasn’t set a deadline on his decision and there are a few factors at play when it comes to his future.
“As a footballer you always want to play in successful teams,” said Lever on radio FIVEaa.
“But there are other things.
“It is not just about team success. And it is not just about money. It’s not just about your family. It is a combination of three or four things.
“For me, when I make my decision, it is going to be about a whole range of things I need to think about.”
