Hawthorn retained bragging rights against fellow part-time Tasmanian inhabitant North Melbourne in a free scoring contest in Launceston.
Our Inside Football experts take a look at the individual performances of each player...
HAWTHORN – 18.8 (116)
Kaiden BRAND – 5
Beaten early by Brown, but solid down back with his disposal, and continues to get better.
Luke BREUST – 7
Became just the 11th player at Hawthorn to kick 300 goals. Finished with four after a slow start.
Shaun BURGOYNE – 4
Quiet day for Silk, but still impacted with two goals.
Ryan BURTON – 7
No more doubt on the Rising Star award – lock it in. 26 disposals and damaging. Looks like a rising leader and very composed.
Taylor DURYEA – 3
Quiet day with just seven kicks, and could face MRP scrutiny.
Conor GLASS – 5
Getting better every week. His kicking was outstanding and laid some good tackles too.
Jack GUNSTON – 8
Phenomenal work rate up and down ground from his half back role, 27 disposals and a goal.
Blake HARDWICK – 5
Gets to the right spots. Excellent opening quarter, but faded.
Billy HARTUNG – 6
Productive afternoon with 26 disposals and a goal. One of his better games for the year.
Ricky HENDERSON – 6
Too many players in similar roles saw him depart the Crows for more opportunity. But adds class to this Hawks team. Two goals.
Luke HODGE – 6
Started slowly and wasn’t his best kicking day, but got progressively better to continue his consistent back half of the year.
Dan HOWE – 6
Keeps getting the big jobs and delivering. Had 20 disposals and blanketed Cunnington.
Will LANGFORD – 5
The yips in front of goal keep getting bigger, but was busy with nine score involvements.
Ben MCEVOY – 6
Directly assisted Breust for three of his goals and kicked one of his own. Solid in the middle.
Teia MILES – 3
Quiet day with just seven touches, but kicked a goal late in the 2nd quarter.
Tom MITCHELL – 7
Led all-comers with 35 disposals and six clearances, but not at his damaging best. Still quality numbers though.
Tim O'BRIEN – 3
Struggled to have much of an impact. Maybe feeling it towards the end of the season?
Jarryd ROUGHEAD – 7
The captain delivered in spades. Vital first goal of the final term to halt the Roos momentum. Finished with eight marks and three goals.
Got his hands to plenty, but struggled to take many marks. One nice goal assist.
Liam SHIELS – 4
Busy around the footy, but only two kicks. Did contribute to the side with eight tackles.
James SICILY – 7
Foot skills exemplary and read the play beautifully. 11 Marks, but also did the tough things for the team.
Isaac SMITH – 8
29 disposals (17 to half time). Long kicking broke the game wide open and finished with two goals and 12 score involvements.
NORTH MELBOURNE – 14.5 (89)
Shaun ATLEY – 4
Ran hard, but lacked end product. Just seven kicks and a goal.
Ben BROWN – 6
Dynamite early, and unlucky not to be paid some marks he should’ve got. Finished with three goals, often up against many opponents.
Ryan CLARKE – 6
Plenty of the ball (27 disposals), has a real crack.
Ben CUNNINGTON – 4
With the skipper missing he needed to do more. Only 10 touches to ¾ time and well held.
Trent DUMONT – 6
Got the job on Tom Mitchell, but both players showed scant regard for their opponent. Finished with 25 disposals.
Sam DURDIN – 4
Likely type. Faded late, but showed why Roos have stuck by him, despite his injuries. Game high eight one-percenters.
Taylor GARNER – 5
Kicked two nice goals and his best is x-factor worthy. Just not enough of it.
Sam GIBSON – 6
26 disposals and six clearances. Solid.
Todd GOLDSTEIN – 2
Looks a shadow of himself. Only one kick and fumbled a lot. Cannot play him and Pruess in the same side.
Shaun HIGGINS – 7
Copped a heavy tag, but fought hard with 31 disposals and eight inside 50’s.
Nathan HROVAT – 3
Very quiet, but got a few touches late. Just six kicks and no goals for a small forward. Run in the VFL perhaps?
Luke MCDONALD – 7
22 disposals and a goal. Used his hardness to effect and was industrious by foot.
Declan MOUNTFORD – 3
Big goal right on ¾ time kept the Roos in it, but struggled via foot. Learning and should be persisted with.
Aaron MULLETT – 6
Was prepared to run hard and rebound. Nine first term disposals and finished with 20.
Daniel NIELSON – 4
Reasonably solid down back. Still very much learning his trade.
Braydon PREUSS – 5
Played a key role in the Roos 3rd quarter comeback with his physicality. Took some good marks and kicked two goals.
Jy SIMPKIN – 4
Tough day at the office. 12 disposals.
Andrew SWALLOW – 6
Got plenty of it in the middle, finished with 12 tackles and seven clearances, Solid
Robbie TARRANT – 6
Skipper for the day. Held up well down back, and used the ball well.
Scott THOMPSON – 3
Looked a frustrated man all afternoon, and little impact. Does he get a new deal?
Kayne TURNER – 2
First game back after seven weeks out injured. Kicked a goal, but little impact with just three kicks.
Cameron ZURHAAR – 5
Late inclusion for skipper Jack Ziebell. Two nice opportunist goals and took the game on. Promising.
