Victorian veteran Rob Quiney has announced his retirement from first class cricket after missing out on a Bushrangers contract for the 2017/18 season.

The 35-year-old made enjoyed a decorated career spanning over a decade scoring 5674 Sheffield Shield runs at an average of 36 with eleven hundreds.

Quiney was involved in five successful Sheffield Shield winning teams including the historic Victorian three-peat over the past three summers.

Through a sheer weight of runs, Quiney forced his way into Australian calculations and eventually made his debut in 2012 against South Africa at the Gabba.

He also played 78 fifty over matches scoring 2680 runs at a healthy average of 39.41 containing three hundreds.

While his first class career has drawn to a close, Quiney will still feature for the Melbourne Stars in this summer’s Big Bash League.

Young stars Will Pucovski, Sam Harper, Blake Thomson and Xavier Crone all received full contracts while promising all-rounder Will Sutherland landed a rookie contract.
