You won’t believe which Saint had “shocking” skinfolds

2017-08-29T14:33+10:00

Former St Kilda midfielder Nick Dal Santo has made the surprising revelation of which one of his former teammates had trouble with skinfold testing during their career.

Outlining the first 12 years of his career, the three-time All-Australian identified retired champion Nick Riewoldt as the worst offender when it came to returning from his summer break with inflated skinfold numbers.

“Nick Riewoldt had shocking skinfolds, which made you feel a little bit more reassured,” Dal Santo told SEN Afternoons.

“If Rooey could start in the 70s and get it down to 55, then why can’t I? He would always train and do things others couldn’t.”

However, Dal Santo also explained how Riewoldt got over those struggles.

“Then he started going to America during the break, and went on a no-carb diet,” he said.

“He actually came back in better shape, so they allowed him to go every season.”

Riewoldt played his 336th and final game on Sunday in St Kilda's loss to Richmond. The former No.1 draft pick finished up with 718 career goals and a VFL/AFL record 2944 marks.
