Sheahan questions Dees' chase for young star

2017-09-18T08:39+10:00

Former Herald Sun journalist Mike Sheahan has questioned all aspects of a potential deal that would land Jake Lever at Melbourne.

The Demons are said to be frontrunners to acquire the services of the 21-year-old defender, who appears on the move after four seasons at the Crows.

“The wraps on Jake Lever are huge but I’m not sure about the deal if it’s what we’re hearing,” Sheahan told SEN Breakfast.

“What I understand is that Melbourne would have to give up two first round draft picks and $800,000 a year.

“He’s playing half-back in the best team in the competition…I would have some reservations about doing that deal.

“I’m just not sure he’s the salvation.

“What is said will need to be given up, and the money, is (Patrick) Dangerfield and (Dustin) Martin territory.”

SEN Breakfast co-host Garry Lyon agreed, suggesting Lever is not worthy of two first round draft picks as compensation.

Melbourne holds pick 10 at this year’s national draft.
