Let's hear the roar, Tiger fans!

Could Richmond fans enter the Guinness World Records book on Saturday night?

With over 95,000 Tigers fans expected to flock to the MCG for the preliminary final clash with Greater Western Sydney, Garry, Tim and Hamish have laid down the gauntlet to the yellow and black army to provide the loudest roar of all time.

Currently, the loudest crowd roar at a sports stadium is held by the fans of the Kansas City Chiefs when they achieved a 142.2 dbA during their win over the New England Patriots in September 2014.

“We'll go down to the Richmond cheer squad end – the Punt Road end – and when its gets to the ‘yellow and black’ in the theme song, that is your chance Richmond supporters to be a chance of history,” former Melbourne skipper Garry Lyon said.

“If Dusty runs in and kicks the first goal, the roar (will be deafening).

“Richmond supporters, you have a chance to say ‘we are the loudest supporting group in the world, we have just pumped the Kansas City Chiefs supporters’.”

The title of the loudest crowd roar at a sports stadium has changed hands a few times over the past decade.

Turkish soccer club Galatasaray held the record at 131.76 dbA in March 2011 before being overtaken by the Seattle Seahawks (136.6 dbA) during their win over the San Francisco 49ers in September 2013.

The Chiefs then took the mantle 28 days later, registering 137.5 dbA in a win over the Oakland Raiders, only to see the Seahawks reclaim the mark with a 137.6 dbA in a 34-7 rout of the New Orleans Saints.

Such was the noise generated by the Seahawks crowd, it registered as a minor earthquake (between a magnitude 1 and 2), according to the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network.
