Tiger defender chimes in on clash jumper debate

2017-09-26T08:45+10:00

Brandon Ellis has given his opinion on the AFL’s decision to make Richmond wear their clash strip in this weekend’s Grand Final against Adelaide.

The 24-year-old former number 15 draft pick says that despite club legend Kevin Bartlett and other storied Richmond figures' vocal protests over the decision, he and the rest of the players couldn’t care less about what they wear in the Tigers’ first Grand Final appearance in 35 years.

“I’d wear a garbage bag if I had to on Saturday just to be able to run out there,” Ellis told SEN Breakfast.

“We’re just so happy to be in a Grand Final and I’m sure Adelaide would be the same.

“Not at all (does it bother the team). I just can’t wait to get out there on Saturday.”

Ellis also shared a story of teammate, fellow defender and housemate Nathan Broad from the final minutes of Richmond’s 36-point triumph over the GWS Giants at the MCG in their preliminary final.

“With two to three minutes to go against GWS, I looked over to him and he had tears in his eyes,” he said.

“I went ‘mate, what are you doing?’ and he goes ‘I can’t believe I’m playing in the Grand Final next week.’

“It was priceless and it shows just how proud he is and how passionate he is. I’m bloody pumped for him.”

The Tigers take on Adelaide at the MCG on Saturday as they aim to win the club's first premiership since 1980.
